If I can become a marketing expert, so can you!

Online course - opens January 11

Learn how and where to communicate so that more people who have never heard of the Alexander Technique can become your students!

For new teachers just starting a practice, experienced teachers looking to reimagine their marketing, and trainees!

Have you ever felt that marketing:

  • is something you can’t do because you have no experience with it?

  • is something you’d rather have someone else do so that you can just focus on teaching?

  • is manipulative or sleazy?

  • is difficult because people can't fully understand the Alexander Technique it unless they experience it?

  • means that you have to put yourself “out there” in a way that feels uncomfortable?

  • sends you into a state of overwhelm where you don’t know where to start?

Have you ever

  • felt less confident about yourself as a teacher when a class didn’t fill?

  • put in a lot of work coming up with workshop titles and descriptions by yourself only to get no response?

  • hesitated to send emails to your contacts for fear of people “unsubscribing" or feeling SPAMed?

Or are you a new teacher or trainee and you're realizing that you're going to need to start promoting your practice, but you don't know where to start?

I'd love to help you turn these fears and hesitations on their heads by helping you understand what the people you are communicating with are actually thinking and how to connect with what they actually need to know to take the next step and work with you.

Good marketing helps potential students feel seen and heard and that someone like you can genuinely help them.

Would you like to find out how to do just that and in a way that is personalized, enjoyable for you, and not overwhelming?

Would you like a simple solution to the problem of trying to explain The Alexander Technique to people who know nothing about it?

This 8-class personalized course to help you grow your practice by sharing your passion about the Alexander Technique in a way that people can relate to.

My name is Lindsay Newitter.  I’ve been teaching the Alexander Technique for 18 years and I do not have a degree in marketing.  I didn’t even have business cards for the first 2 years I was teaching.

When I finally decided that promoting my practice might be a good idea, I became curious about the process and it lead me to realize that, ultimately, effective marketing is a first step of a series of building blocks of teaching -- and I had been skipping this crucial step!

What I realized though, was that I knew how to teach a lesson, so I had to learn how to apply these skills to marketing. It was a big shift in mindset for me and what happened was that it created more connection and trust with my students from the get-go. And the bonus was that by focusing on my marketing, I become a better teacher!

With no tech training, I built a simple and effective online presence that eventually allowed me to support myself as an Alexander Technique teacher.  My online communication style has also attracted the attention of print, TV and radio media, which further helped my practice grow.

In this course, I won’t just tell you to do what I’ve done.  Instead I’ll teach you the means whereby to create marketing that is unique to you and who you'd like to work with, through effective and authentic communication!

This course will focus on two main topics:

The Means Whereby:  How to communicate effectively and speak in a way that people will understand how you can help them and why they should work with you.

I’ll also help you figure out how to get over your biggest marketing and communication hurdles - we’ll play fun writing and speaking games that will not put you on the spot, but will help you figure out what to do when you are and will give you feedback  on how to communicate simply and effectively.

Communication Tools and Strategies:

I’ll help you figure out which communication tools are right for you and how to use them.  There’s no one right answer.  You might choose a completely different strategy based on your interests, the people you want to work with, and how people in your community/audience get information.  The key is that whatever you choose, you apply the means whereby of marketing.

In this section, I will also present statistics on how these tools work and what your expectations should be.

Everything you learned will be tailored to:

  • Work with your personal communication style and let your voice come through

  • Decide what communication tools work for you and where and when you want to communicate with potential students (For example there’s no rule that you have to use social media or learn a bunch of new tech, but if you want to, I can help you do that.)

  • Help you figure out how to get over your biggest marketing and communication hurdles - we’ll play fun writing and speaking games that will not put you on the spot, but will help you figure out what to do when you are.

You’ll learn:

  • Why marketing doesn’t have to be pushy or icky and is really no different from teaching.

  • How to apply the same means whereby principle that you use in teaching to marketing.

  • How to avoid the biggest marketing mistake that many AT teachers make.

  • How to deal with fear of failure or of putting yourself out there.

  • Effective ways to communicate with students from the moment they contact you through the end of the first lesson and beyond.

  • Why having an “audience” in mind can expand, rather than limit, who you work with.

  • Simple strategies for understanding how the public perceives your communications and to figure out what they need to know before they say yes and sign up.

  • To discover a variety if ways to promote your practice (word of mouth, intro classes, mailing list, social media, etc.) and learn which tools suit you personally and are most relevant to your location, culture, and the people you want to work.  There is no one-size-fits all strategy.

  • How to set your fees and feel confident telling people what they are.
